Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
  • Your Travel Documents

Your passport, travel air tickets, or any other travel documents, locks for your luggage and alternative variety of identification just in case of passport loss should be set early enough before your travel for a tourism event experience.

For tourism in Africa, you will need your passport to be valid for six months beyond your travel dates in Africa. Ensure your passport has enough blank pages for any stamping, and thoroughly review all the entry requirements for each country you’re visiting.

For entry into Africa, you will require a visa.

  • Health

    • At least 60 days prior to departure, check with your doctor or healthcare provider for the latest updates and entry requirements.
    • Local governments will require proof of a yellow fever vaccination (often referred to as a yellow card ) or a statement of medical exemption from the vaccine.
    • Drink bottled water only. Refrain from ingesting tap water
    • Bring a small first aid kit, including antacids, anti-maleria medication, anti-diarrhea medication, motion sickness medication, and any prescription medications that is recommended by your doctor for the tourism event.
    • If you have medication that you take daily, be sure you have enough for each day of the tourism event and any possible delays encountered.
    • If you have dietary restrictions and/or food allergies please notify Visit Africa at least 30 days prior to your departure.
  • Transportation and Arrival Information

    • A representative from Visit Africa will meet you at the airport and transfer you to your hotel.
    • Transfers to and from the airport at your destination are included as part of your wild thrill experience.
    • During your game drives, you’ll travel in a specially equipped 4x4 tourism vehicle. The vehicle is open, allowing for panoramic views. Window seats are guaranteed for all travellers. Be advised that transfers between parks are long and cross bumpy terrain.
  • Clothing & Packing Tips

    • Loose-fitting, layered clothing that can accommodate varying temperatures will be most comfortable. Quick-dry material is best for hot days outside and a warmer layer may be needed for chilly evenings and early mornings.
    • Wear muted colours for game drives, as bright clothing may scare animals away and blue or black clothing attracts tsetse flies.
    • Comfortable closed-toes shoes, such as sneakers or lightweight hiking boots, are best for walking during the day.
    • Pack a swimsuit as many of the hotels have pools that you are free to use at your leisure.
    • Sun protection is very important. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a broad-brimmed hat to protect your face and the back of your neck from the sun.
    • Occasional rain showers are common during certain seasons, so lightweight rain-wear may be necessary depending on the timing of your trip.
    • Mosquito repellent, binoculars, and a flashlight are highly recommended.
    • A small bottle of hand sanitizer may be helpful when other facilities are not readily available while on the road.
    • Many African countries are adopting strict bans on plastic bags. We kindly advise you not to carry any.
  • Cuisine

    • Most of the cuisines you will encounter while on your tourism event experience are native (local). Other foreign cuisines are mainly British, French and Asian, this is so due to their earlier influence in these parts of Africa.
    • Africa is the true food basket of the world. Find all types of fruits including those you have never heard of before. Note that fruits that only grow in cold climate temperatures are not that common. though some can be accessed in selected super/mega market shops.
    • African Cuisine is a breathtaking experience on it's own right. Prepare your taste buds.
  • Hotel & Lodging Amenities

    • All hotels picked for your tourism event fall under mid-range. These normally have all the basic amenities you need for convenience.
    • Note that most African Countries uses a Type G plug with three large, flat pins.
    • We recommend packing a universal adapter, as well as a voltage converter if you plan on using your own hair-dryer or other device without a built-in converter.
    • Not all of the hotels on this tour will have air conditioning.
    • Your hotels may provide hair-dryers, irons, and other small appliances. However, these amenities cannot be guaranteed.
    • Power outages are common. In some of the camps, power is turned off in the late afternoon as well as in the early morning
  • Connectivity

    • Wi-Fi is available in some hotels, though charges may apply.
    • Visit Africa will provide you with Wi-Fi in the tourism coaches or safari vehicles during the duration fo the tourism event.
  • Visit Africa Team

    • You will be assigned a wild thrill guide for this wild thrill experience. You will be met by a representative from Visit Africa upon arrival and will then meet your guide the morning of your first full day on tour. He or she will act as both your tour guide and driver for the duration of your tour. All members of the Visit Africa team are fluent in English and other local languages. If you would like translators for other languages, kindly indicate in the message section above.
  • Currency

    • The currencies you’ll be using on your Visit Africa Wild thrill include all internationally recognized currencies and all local currencies.
    • You may need to exchange some few monies into the local currency, for tipping or other conservation donations.
    • We recommend that you carry as little local cash as possible as well as small amounts of U.S. dollars (only crisp bills printed in 2004 or later).
    • ATMs are most readily available in Africa, almost all towns have bank ATM Machines; while there, we recommend taking out cash in small bills to have on a wild thrill.
    • Major North American credit cards are accepted but can be difficult to use in remote locations (Visa and Mastercard is the most widely accepted).
    • International banks and businesses primarily accept debit and credit cards that work with the EMV chip system. If you do not already have at least one debit or credit card with a chip in it, we strongly recommend requesting one from your bank prior to your tour.
    • We suggest that you inform your bank and credit card company of your travel plans, so that they won’t confuse your international purchases for fraudulent charges.
  • Shopping

    • You will have the opportunity to shop for local handicrafts, such as wood carvings and textiles, at outdoor markets and roadside stalls. Some lodges will have souvenirs shops on the premises as well.
    • Prices at most markets are negotiable, so don't be afraid to bargain, it's a great way to strike up a conversation with a local.
  • Tipping

Tipping tourism event guides or any service provider on your African tourism visit is something you do at your own discretion

    • At the conclusion of your tour, it’s customary to offer your driver/guide a gratuity.
    • We advise tipping to be paid in cash.
  • Time zones

    • The world is divided longitudinally into time zones, with each hour difference roughly 15 degrees apart. Due to some countries having half hour time zones, there are more than 24 times zones in the world. Most countries, especially the smaller ones, have only one time zone.
    • A time zone is an area that observes a uniform standard time for legal, commercial and social purposes. All time zones are defined as offsets from Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), ranging from UTC−12:00 to UTC+14:00.
    • Africa uses six time zones and thirteen standard time zone names to describe them. Africa time zone offsets range from UTC/GMT -1 to UTC/GMT + 4.
  • Travel Insurance

Acquiring travel insurance for any tourism event/ wild thrill is essential due to unforeseen inconveniences, so we recommend you get one before the start of your tourism event.

Travel insurance is a plan you purchase that protects you from certain financial risks and losses that can occur while traveling. These losses can be minor, like a delayed suitcase, or significant, like a last-minute trip cancellation or a medical emergency overseas.
