Where is Amboseli National Park found?

The land of Giants, beneath Kilimanjaro’s gaze as it’s also termed, is nested in the southern part of Kenya near the Tanzanian border, lying about 240km southeast of Nairobi city, Kenya’s capital.

Founded in 1974, the park sits right at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro (Africa’s highest mountain).

How to get there

By road, the trip from Nairobi takes about 4-5 hours, as travellers can take the Mombasa road through Emali or Namanga, as both routes offer glimpses of rural Kenyan life along the way.

By air, daily flights operate from Wilson Airport, Nairobi, to Amboseli Airstrip, taking just about 45 minutes. From above, you can also get stunning aerial views of Mount Kilimanjaro.

What to expect and see

Amboseli, alias “The Land of Giants”, is famous for its large herds of free-roaming elephants as many of them among the largest tuskers in Africa.

Besides the backdrop of snow-capped Kilimanjaro, the sight is nothing short of magical.

Beyond Elephants, the park offers a classic African safari experience with cheetahs, lions, zebras, wildebeests, giraffes, and more than 400 bird species. your never short of action.

With an observation hill that offers one a panoramic view of the entire ecosystem of swamps, shimmering with other wildlife like hippos, grasslands dotted with gazelles and the mighty Kilimanjaro over in the distance.

Activities to do

Game drives are the highlight of any visit, either in the early dawn of day or at sunset or dusk, these drives reveal a world teeming with wildlife.

Bird watching as you visit during the wet seasons ( November-May) to spot migratory species and vibrant flocks around the grasslands.

Photography in Amboseli is a photographer’s dream as wildlife game can be framed against Mount Kilimanjaro at sunrise.

Sunset views as you enjoy your day watching the sun dip behind the mighty Kilimanjaro, which offers a breathtaking scene that truly captures the soul of Africa.

Cultural visits allow you to interact with the local Maasai culture within nearby Maasai villages.

Explore the vast wilderness of the park during nature walks as you get to have a close encounter with nature.
